Spring home opener for the Buena Vista University (BVU) Men’s Tennis took place this past Saturday, March, 5. The Beavers came out victorious with their first conference win over the University of Dubuque, but also suffered a loss to Augustana.

The Beavers took wins in 2 of the 3 doubles matches and 3 of the 6 singles matches. It all came down to the final singles match with Will Connelly. As a BVU junior, this is Connelly’s first win over University of Dubuque. Connelly comments on what it was like to be in the determining match.

“Having my singles match be the deciding match for the meet was exciting because I was able to pull a win for the team,” Connelly said.

Augusta swept the Beavers 9-0, but that still leaves the Beavers optimistic as they plan to continue to work hard in the meantime in anticipation for their spring break trip to South Carolina to compete against St. Olaf.

“After an all-out battle in the a.m, we were just out of a bit of gas against a good Augustana team in the afternoon. Being in tough spots will help us to capitalize them further down the road,” First year Head Coach Brett Groen said.
“We will keep working hard on doubles and finishing matches and singles will take care of itself as we play more and more matches.”

Their next home contest against Loras College will be Saturday, April 2 at 9 a.m.
