Hawks lose. Clones lose. Nebraska wins. This is the perfect formula to a bad Saturday. Fortunately, there were plenty of other good games to check out.
The first: Good ol’ Senior Day in Beaver Nation. I did not attend the game, but I heard it was a great one. This win pushes the Beavers to 4-5 with one more game. A win for the Beavers could make it a solid season, finishing with five wins in a row.
ND tip-toed out of another close one. Every game they play it close, and every game they win. I would love to see ND and K State play in the National Title game. Even though I am not a fan of Brian Kelly, I would like to watch a championship game without a SEC team for the first time since the merger. Even though I don’t see that happening, I can dream, can’t I? Bama is just too tough and fast and big and strong, and well, they’re pretty good. They could beat a handful of NFL teams, and I really believe that especially if AJ McCarron plays well.
I really enjoyed watching the start of the NBA season. It’s always fun watching these insanely athletic and overpaid guys jump around for a change of pace from football. The lack of defense is what everyone complains about. I agree that NBA defensive intensity is not at the level it should be, but think of it this way: if the guy you’re guarding, no matter how good of defense you play, will probably score on you six out of ten times, I can somewhat see why they do not play exception defense on every possession of an 82 game season.
The college basketball season is upon us, and it will be interesting to see how good Tyler Zeller and Doug McDermott can be this season and how new faces in Kentucky can mesh together. The two teams I will be watching most this year will be Iowa and Iowa State. Both (obviously) will be better than last year, and Iowa could be a lot better than people think. Iowa State loses Royce but adds a solid point guard in Korey Lucious, and I think they could be pretty salty. It’s always tough for teams to win when “Hilton Magic” is involved.
A quick shout out to Jimmy Graham who put up 21 Monday night so I could beat Cole Darrow in fantasy by one point. Also, I played against Doug “I’ll put up 50+ fantasy points and not give a curr” Martin in two of my four leagues. It made me feel like Alex Savage, minus the complaining. But seriously Doug? ……50 fantasy points?
Thanks for reading everyone.
