The Volunteer Recognition Dinner is held annually by Student Mobile Outreach Volunteer Efforts (M.O.V.E.) to honor students and faculty who do outstanding service in our community. This year’s event was hosted on Tuesday, May 7 and featured dinner with an awards ceremony to follow. Awards given included Volunteer of the Year for each grade among others. Recipients of the awards were nominated this year by students and faculty.
Junior Vice President of Special Events for Student M.O.V.E. Gwendolyn Walton helped plan the event this year.
“I serve because I have been very blessed in my life; I’ve never been in desperate need of anything, and I know there are people who are less fortunate than me, and it’s not necessarily their fault. So, I just really think it’s important to give help and give back to the community because I might need that help someday,” Walton said.
Student M.O.V.E.’s goal is to get members of the community involved in service at Buena Vista University (BVU) and in the community. They accomplish this goal by hosting several “alternative happy hour” events, planning service trips, and actively recruiting students to do service.
