The Buena Vista University (BVU) volleyball team took the court against Wartburg College on Oct. 28th at 7 p.m. Wartburg came out on top in a close five-game match.
This game was Senior night for lone senior, Jordan Henningsen.
“Henningsen has played an incredible roll on the team this year, she has grown as a leader and has helped us win many ball games with her fierce drive to win,” head coach Lori Slight said.
Henningsen knew this was her last regular season home game, but wanted to treat it just like any other game.
“Going into senior night was a very surreal feeling. These past four years have gone so fast and have been full of so many highs and lows for this team and I’m so proud of how far we’ve come. Although the night was special for me, I knew we had to stay focused on our last conference game against one of the top teams in our conference,” Henningsen said.
This Beaver team seems to be on a roll. They’ve had some ups and downs throughout this season but both Henningsen and Slight are very proud.
“As far as the team, I could not be more proud to be their coach. They are an amazing group of young who work hard every day in practice and their commitment to me and to each other is why I believe this team has grown into the team we have become. We have accomplished so much this year and hopefully can keep climbing one game at a time. We talk about playing steady and playing in the moment of every point, so I very confident and hopefully calm going into our future matches,” Slight said.
The Beavers fought hard but just came short on Tuesday night at Siebens Fieldhouse.
“Even though our team fought until the end but didn’t get the result we’d hoped for, we still are focused coming into the conference tournament and are pushing for the title,” Henningsen said.
The Beavers now stand as the number 3 seed in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) tournament, and will play at home this Tuesday, Nov. 4 against the number 6 seed, which is yet to be determined. The team is back in action starting this Friday Oct. 31st at the Augustana College invitational in Rock Island, Illinois.
