Softball
Beaver softball hit the road on Saturday, Apr. 11 as they traveled to the University of Dubuque for their fourth Iowa Conference doubleheader. The Beavers won the opener with a 4-1 score but lost game two 4-3.
The Beavers scored their four runs in the first two innings. Freshman Keely Bycroft pitched the first four innings giving up just one Spartan run. Junior Jenna Falline came in for the last three innings allowing only one hit.
BVU is now 13-14 overall and 4-4 in the IIAC and will continue conference play at home this Saturday, Apr. 18 against the Knights of Wartburg College.
Men’s Tennis
The Buena Vista men’s tennis team had an Iowa Conference home match against Wartburg College on Sunday, Apr. 12. The Knights took the Beavers in a 6-3 thriller.
The Beaver’s lone doubles win came from the number three slot of sophomore Jesse Brace and freshman Grant Wright in which they won 8-5. Sophomore Chistopher Habermann and senior Kyle Weeden also edged out in an 8-6 decision. Habermann also secured a win in the number one singles slot while freshman Robby Steffes secured another win at the number five singles slot.
BVU now stands 2-11 overall and 0-3 in the IIAC.
Men’s Golf
The BVU men’s golf team finished 8th at the Wartburg College Invite on Saturday, Apr. 11. Sophomore Brady Haye turned in a team-best score of 75, placing 20th overall. Junior teammate John Bral shot a 76 to tie for 28th.
Although the Beavers finished 8th, they were just six strokes off from seventh and nine strokes from fifth. The Beavers will see the course again when they host the annual BVU Spring Invite next Friday and Saturday, Apr. 24-25 before they begin the Iowa Conference Championships.
Track & Field
The track and field team continued their outdoor season this part Saturday, Apr. 11 as they took part in Northwestern College’s invite: Red Raider Open.
The women’s team had one close finish in the 4×100 meter relay consisting of seniors Casey James, Maggie Marker, Katie Larsen and Laura Eberly, as they placed third with a time of 50.82.
On the men’s side, it was senior Seth Woodson and junior Austin Groth who stole the show. Woodson came in third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.91 while Groth finished third in the 110 meter high hurdles. Groth then placed first in the 400 hurdles with a time of 57.41 Senior Alex Lamp also saw a top three finish as he placed second in the 3000 meter steeplechase.
The Beavers will head to the Sioux City Relays this Friday and Saturday, Apr. 17-18.
