Buena Vista University’s (BVU) student organization, Student Mobilizing Outreach Volunteer Efforts (Student M.O.V.E.), is hosting the annual Glass Slipper Shop again this year.
The shop offers low priced prom dresses that have been donated by surrounding boutiques and other individuals. Dress shops including Sequins Bridal Boutique in Cherokee, IA; Stacey’s in Des Moines, IA; Teresa’s Bridal in Algona, IA; and Bridal Country Ltd in Carroll, IA. Dresses are anywhere from brand new with tags to lightly used.
Danielle Eden, Student M.O.V.E.’s Co-Vice President of Special Events, says the Glass Slipper Shop hopes to provide everyone the opportunity to go to prom.
“There are more dresses this year than last,” Eden said.
Prices for the dresses this year are between $10 and $40. All proceeds from the Glass Slipper Shop will go toward a local charity, CAASA, as well as Susan G. Komen and a scholarship sponsored by Student M.O.V.E. With the poverty in Storm Lake, the shop allows students to have new dresses while spending less money.
Eden said that she hopes to reach more people this year with the connections between M.O.V.E. and the Storm Lake High School. Eden and her Co-Vice Presiddent, Natalie Bellairs, will be doing a radio announcement at KAYL, a Storm Lake radio station. She also explained that last year there was not a Facebook page for the event and this year there is. Bellairs hopes it will bring more awareness to the Storm Lake community and surrounding towns.
