Alexis Burnett is a sophomore goal keeper for the Buena Vista University Women’s soccer team. Burnett attends BVU after Fremont Highschool in Hooper, Utah.
Burnett began playing soccer around the age of four, and first played competitively at the age of eight. It wasn’t until Burnett turned 10 years old that she realized her calling was in the goal.
“I didn’t play goalie until I was 10, and I think that was the moment that both myself and my family realized soccer was a major part of our lives,” Burnett said.
Assistant Women’s soccer coach, Kyle King, had high hopes for Burnett this fall.
“We as a coaching staff hoped that she would come in and contend for the starting keeper position. Also that she would be able to push our returning keeper in order to create a healthy competition for playing time and be a positive force on the team,” King said.
Burnett has done just that. In the eight games that she has started for the Beavers, she leads the team in saves with 49. She also leads the team in save percentage, with a 0.690 average.
“Lexi has a spring to her dives. She is able to get her body parallel with the ground while diving left or right. This is generally fun to watch and leads to her making acrobatic saves,” King said.
Burnett still has one main goal for the remainder of the season this year for her and her team.
“I want everyone to stick together and continue to play with passion no matter what the outcome is,” Burnett said.
The team currently sits at 3-8-1 overall (0-4 IIAC). The Beavers are back in action this Saturday at Loras College with a 3:30 pm start time.
