Buena Vista University’s (BVU) women’s volleyball team took the court against Simpson College on October 1st at 7 p.m. The Beavers continued their winning streak on Wednesday when they swept Simpson in three games. This is the first victory over the Storm in eight years.

Head coach Lori Slight was extremely happy about the win.

“Getting another sweep of a conference match is always exciting, especially when we sweet Central and now Simpson. Whether it happens in 3, 4, or 5 sets, we just want the “W”,” Slight said.

This team has several new faces that are proving to be large assets for the team. Freshman Jade Schaap completed the game with 13 kills.

“Going into the game I was feeling confident. We knew that we were not just going to be able to mess around, we had to show up and play,” Schaap said.

Senior Jordan Henningsen passed a milestone on Wednesday night’s game. Henningsen surpassed 1,000 digs in her career. The entire team was proud of Jordan and she helped them move on to victory.

“Honestly, I didn’t know that I was going to get my 1,000th dig this game. When they announced it, it was a very accomplished moment. Like all my hard work had paid off,” Henningsen said.

Although they are off to a great start in conference play, the team believes there are still many aspects of the game that they can improve.

“As a team, we need to continue training hard in practice and stay focused on what will drive the team forward,” Slight said.

The team is now 14-8 overall and 2-1 in IIAC play. They look to continue their current winning streak this Wednesday, October 8th, when they travel to Loras College.
