When I arrived, to my surprise, a Piper Archer II had just landed and way taxiing back to the hangers.

Men’s soccer looking to re-group for future games

Buena Vista University’s (BVU) men’s soccer team took the field on Wednesday, October 1 at 5:00 against Simpson College. The game ended in an 8-1 loss for the Beavers.

At the start of the game, both teams seemed pretty evenly matched. Both teams were on the opposing side of the field multiple times. After the first Simpson goal, it seemed things became frustrating for the Beavers.

“Overall, the guys never gave up. We will need to re-group and re-focus for the upcoming IIAC games,” head coach Ben McArthur said.

The upperclassmen are very important to this team. They’re considered the leaders of the team and it’s evident that the underclassmen look up to them. Sophomore Tyler Smaha, a varsity starter, is one of those players.

“For the rest of the season going forward, I think it’s important that we try and forget about this game and look to make the conference tournament. I think our seniors deserve that for all the hard work they’ve put in,” Smaha said. “Going into the game, I felt pretty good. I was hoping that the momentum from winning the previous game against Dubuque, would carry into this game against Simpson. We are a very capable team when we play to our full potential. I think I speak for the entire team when I say that we got embarrassed against Simpson. We just didn’t execute what we practiced and we were beat because of it.”

The Beavers are now 4-6-1 overall and 0-3 in IIAC play after their road loss to Loras College on Saturday, Oct. 4. The men will now travel to Saint Mary’s in Minnesota for a non-conference match-up on Tuesday, Oct. 7.
