After months of planning, Student Activities Board (SAB) is taking over the week at Buena Vista University (BVU). SAB is the organization that is responsible for planning and scheduling Homecoming events. According to Vice President of Homecoming Bonnie Keller, SAB has been planning this upcoming week’s activities for Homecoming since April of 2014.

“We go to NACA in April and we look at different acts showcases and booths and we find what we think would work well on campus and what the student body would like, and we being planning from there,” Keller said.

The SAB board involved in Homecoming includes: President of SAB, Alexis Williams; Vice President of Homecoming, Bonner Keller; and Vice President of Traditions, Kayla Lohse. Williams oversees all of the Homecoming plans. Keller plans everything from the t-shirts SAB members wear for Homecoming to the events and prizes throughout the week,. Lohse is involved with planning coronation and coordinates the voting for Homecoming court.

“My overall expectation for the week is that we adequately provide appealing entertainment to the BVU community. I expect that our members will do their part in positively representing SAB and seeking out student feedback. But I also hope that students thoroughly enjoy the events we put on – we try really hard and take a lot of time to think about what the students want. I just hope they see that and enjoy what we selected or come to us with suggestions for next year,” Williams said.

During this week, SAB will offering a number of events for students, along with other events:

  • Monday night: Ruckus Around Campus
  • Tuesday night: Moonlight Bowling
  • Wednesday night: Midnight Movie
  • Thursday night: Triviathon
  • Friday night: Coronation and Paint Rave

The Paint Rave is a new event offered this year. It will be held outside at Central Campus, the same location as the Johnny Holm concert. The Paint Rave will include a DJ from 9:00 p.m. until midnight, as well as free glow items.

“You show up. You dance. You get covered in paint. You get free glowsticks. It’s quite simple,” said Vice President of Advertising Carolyn McDermott.

SAB will be offering a wide variety of activities for all students to partake in during this year’s Homecoming week. As for goals this week, SAB members hope to spark interest with students throughout campus and see a variety of people at events.

“We hope to make a memorable week for all BVU students,” said Keller.
