Following a head-turning 2022 campaign, the Buena Vista University Volleyball squad aims to best their program-tying run from last season. Entering 2022 with a projected eighth place conference finish, the Beavers shocked American Rivers Conference fans when they entered as the three seed and made their way to the conference championship match, ultimately losing to Coe College.
In a year returning five starters, experience is met with youth as the team doubled in size over the summer. Utilizing 12 upperclassmen throughout spring season, 15 freshmen made their way to campus prior to the start of the semester. Contrasting a single net operation during practices, now extra time is spent setting up three courts, allowing for a competitive atmosphere to infiltrate practices and simulate in-match intensities.
In the Preseason Coaches’ Poll, the Beavers have been projected to finish fifth in the American Rivers Conference. The influx of youth may result in early growing pains, but returners hope to mimic a late season surge as the quest for a conference title begins. The Beavers kick off their conference journey on September 26th in Siebens Fieldhouse against Wartburg College.
